Grocery Costs in Costa Rica

As an ongoing post, I’d like to provide some current grocery costs from receipts of trips to Perimercado, a popular and common supermarket in Costa Rica. These figures are straight off the receipt from May 2009. They include all taxes.
Rice: 1378 colones
Milk: 706 colones
Coca Cola (individual serving in plastic bottle): 602 colones

Cost of Various Fruits and Vegetables in Costa Rica May 2009

These prices are recent as of May 2009, in the downtown San Jose Costa Rica mercados and amongst the street vendors.
Potatoes: the best prices I’ve seen are 3 kilos for 1000 colones. This basically means a pretty large bag for under $2 usd.
Mangos: around 500 colones per kilo. In other words, less than $1 usd [...]

Bacon in Costa Rica?

When I arrived in Costa Rica, I expected there to be an abundance of local bacon. So far I haven’t found any. I’ve only found a couple imported brands of bacon, which are significantly more expensive than in the US. Does anyone know of any local Costa Rican bacons?
